WHAT IS CARPENTRY?
A skilled trade in which the primary work performed is the cutting , shaping, and installation of building materials during the construction of buildings, ships, timber bridges, concrete form work, etc. Carpenters traditionally worked with natural wood and did the rougher work such as framing, but today many other materials are also used and sometimes the finer trades of cabinet making and furniture are building are considered.

This Module is an exploratory course which leads you to Carpentry National Certificate Level II ( NC II)1. It covers 5 common competencies that a Grade 7 / Grade 8 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student like you ought to possess, namely:
- prepare Construction Materials and Tools;
- maintain Tools and Equipment;
- peform Mensurations and Calculations;
- interpret Drawings and Plans; and
- practice Occupational Health and Safety Procedures.
These 5 common competencies are covered separately in 5 Lessons. As shown below, each Lesson is directed to the attainment of one or two learning outcomes.
